Artist Spotlight: The Rivergods’ “Yankee Rant (Stay)”

As I said in the previous post, it’s a good day to stock up on music from your favorite indie artists. BandCamp is waiving its fees today (Friday, March 20) and giving every penny of profit to artists. Connecticut-based roots rockers The Rivergods were supposed to release their new album, Passages, in April at a record release show, but those plans are up in the air right now. But you can buy the new single, “Yankee Rant (Stay),” right now on BandCamp.

Ban Parent, who sings lead and wrote this song, has this to say about the upcoming album:

The Rivergods make a full return to their roots on Passages, their fifth full-length studio album, following up 2017’s State of the Union. From the Stones-y bar romp of “Yankee Rant (Stay)” to the gritty blues shuffle of “Let Me Out, Lord” to the to the traditional country sway of “Breakfast in Bed,” Passages features nine new original Rivergods’ songs, plus their first-ever recorded cover, a haunting take on Neil Young’s “On the Beach” sung by vocalist Nancy Parent. Passages was recorded at PWOP Studios in New London by Carl Franklin, who also was at the helm for 2017’s State of the Union.

Parent says he wrote the new single a while ago, partly inspired by watching his friends and fellow musicians head for warmer climates. “I wanted to write a ‘northern rock’ southern rock-type anthem!” he says. “I thought it would be fun to celebrate being a New Englander, particularly when every (at least around here) usually wants to get the hell out of Dodge.”
