DHFF 2019: Turn and Face the Strain,“Feral”

Every day through October, the Department of Tangents brings you the Daily Horror Film Fest – one short horror film for every day of the month. It might be terrifying, it might be funny. It could be an homage classic monsters or something entirely new. Check back every morning for a new scare as we celebrate horror shorts!

It’s tough to make a good indie werewolf short. Without some serious CGI or ingenious practical effects, it’s difficult to show a convincing change, and worse, the final product tends to look a tad cheesy. Director Christopher Nunez smartly sidesteps these pitfalls in “Feral,” written by Richard Aquirre, by using darkness and some clever cuts to show the central character, Scott, getting fanged and fuzzy.

Scott is not having a good week. He discovers something – unfriendly – in his backyard, and gets a nasty bite. Now he finds himself distracted and having strange dreams. Something is happening. His doctor can’t help him, and searching the problem on the Internet always winds up confirming your worst, most far-fetched suspicions. But this could only be one thing, right?
