Department of Tangents Podcast Ep3 – Producer Dave Cobb, music from Morgane Stapleton with Chris Stapleton

The April 1 edition of the Department of Tangents Podcast is a conversation with Dave Cobb, who won Grammys in 2015 for his work on Jason Isbell‘s Something More Than Free and Chris Stapleton‘s Traveller. He’s worked with some of the best artists in country and Americana over the past few years, including Shooter Jennings, Sturgill Simpson, Lindi Ortega, Lake Street Dive, and the Secret Sisters. We spoke about working on Isbell’s Southeastern and Something More Than Free and Cobb’s wish to record someplace strange, who Cobb might like to work with next, as well as his philosophy as a producer.

There was also news after we first spoke that Cobb had won Producer of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards, and Ben Folds posted that he was turning the keys to the legendary RCA Studio A over to Cobb, which will be happening April 1, around the time this posts. He also produced a new concept album called Southern Family, which includes the work of Isbell, Shooter Jennings, Brent Cobb, John Paul White, Miranda Lambert, Zac Brown, Anderson East and others. Included here is a cover of “You Are My Sunshine” by Morgane Stapleton with Chris Stapleton.
