My guest for Episode 6 of the Department of Tangents Podcast is musician and filmmaker Brendan Boogie. When I sat down with Brendan in his living room in April, he was about to release a new album called Last Words with Brendan Boogie and the Broken Gates, and launch a Kickstarter project for his latest film, Sundown. Sundown will be Brendan’s directorial debut after he wrote and starred in The Mayor of Rock and Roll, a film I hope gets a wider distribution somewhere. It’s a charming comedy about a rock musician who’s been in the scene a while and never gotten a shot at fame, and it stars a lot of great bands and musicians, too. We covered a lot of ground, talking not only about Brendan’s various projects but also about the utility of a dark sense of humor and why people who insist certain entertainers are need to hang it up are foolish.
