Every day during October, the Department of Tangents presents a different short film for the Daily Horror Film Fest. It can be flat-out scary, funny horror, or just plain creepy. And every Monday during the DHFF, we\u2019ll be featuring the films of Andrew J.D. Robinson of WORKOBEY Films. <\/p>\n
Today\u2019s film is Candle Cove<\/em><\/a>, based on the Creepypasta<\/a> of the same name. Robinson grew up in the 90s watching horror series like Are You Afraid of the Dark?<\/em> And Goosebumps<\/em>, so these stories hold some natural appeal to him. \u201cWhen Creepypastas materialized digitally I was immediately immersed in them,\u201d he says. \u201cCandle Cove has always been one of my favorites \u2013 from its elemental theme ‘what if there was something scary behind some of your most cherished childhood memories’ mixed with the discovery of unimaginable worlds of horrors.\u201d<\/p>\n His take on Candle Cove<\/em> doesn\u2019t include some elements from the original, since it was presented as a series of exchanges in an online forum, and he doesn\u2019t reference the \u201cSkin Taker\u201d skeleton. \u201cI was compelled to concentrate on the fear of the unknown,\u201d he says, \u201cthat in discovering unfathomable, unforeseen forces much larger than us makes our own existence seem so helpless against them, which meant removing some of its original mythos in order to feed into an enigma.\u201d<\/p>\n There may be more Creepypasta films on the way from Robinson. \u201cThere’s a handful I’m meditating on re-imagining,\u201d he says. \u201cThe Russian Sleep Experiment<\/em>, Where Bad Kids Go<\/em>, Annora Petrova<\/em>, The Expressionless<\/em>, and Gateway of the Mind<\/em> all spark me.\u201d <\/p>\n
