The band is on tour supporting their <a href=\"http:\/\/nickzaino.com\/departmentoftangents\/2016\/09\/30\/new-release-roundup-drive-by-truckers-bob-weir-luke-winslow-king-the-wytches-mike-destefano\/\" target=\"_blank\">hard-rocking, politically-charged new album, <em>American Band<\/em><\/a>, and were in Nashville, where former DBTs guitarist (2001-2007) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonisbell.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Isbell<\/a> happens to live with his wife, singer\/songwriter Amanda Shires. Isbell just <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JasonIsbell\/status\/820814082739699712\" target=\"_blank\">started work on a new album on January 16<\/a>, recording in Nashville with producer <a href=\"http:\/\/nickzaino.com\/departmentoftangents\/2016\/04\/01\/department-of-tangents-podcast-ep-3-producer-dave-cobb-music-from-morgane-stapleton-with-chris-stapleton\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dave Cobb<\/a> and the band, and doesn&#8217;t have any live dates on the books until next month. So he was free to jump onstage and join his former bandmates for &#8220;Heathens&#8221; from <em>Decoration Day<\/em>, Isbell&#8217;s first album with the band. The affection between the former band members is clear.
