The throngs will be out in force for Black Friday sales today, along with some brave record nuts looking for some vinyl candy for the second Record Store Day of the year. Yes, there is some base consumerist pandering to this (two a year?). But it hits me right in the gut anyway. I am happily pandered to on Record Store Day, gleefully even. I get to see all the other like-minded folks helping to pack the local music stores that have survived. It feels like a community to me. There is plenty to look forward to this year. Here are a few releases on my list, including the quantity that has been pressed. Find the full schedule on the Record Store Day site<\/a>. <\/p>\n

7\u201d Singles: <\/strong>
\n1. Alice Cooper<\/a> \u2013 Live From the Astroturf<\/em>
\nThis features two songs from the reunion of the surviving members of the original Alive Cooper group at Good Records in Dallas on 10\/6\/15 \u2013 \u201cI\u2019m Eighteen\u201d and \u201cIs It My Body.\u201d This may be a preview of things to come, as there were reports earlier this year that Cooper was working with the guys on new music<\/a>. Quantity: 2500<\/p>\n

2. The Cars<\/a> \u2013 “Just What I Needed”
\nA cool collector\u2019s item for Cars fans, a picture disc featuring \u201cJust What I Needed\u201d and \u201cI\u2019m In Touch With Your World.\u201d Quantity: 2000<\/p>\n

3. The Kinks<\/a> \u2013 \u201cTil Death Do Us Part,\u201d \u201cGod\u2019s Children,\u201d \u201cThe Kinks\u201d
\nThe Kinks are usually well-represented on Record Store Day, and this year they will have three 7\u201d EPs plus an LP (see below) on the shelves. The \u201cGod\u2019s Children\u201d EP includes songs from the soundtrack of Percy, which has never been released in the US. Quantity is 2500 for each. <\/p>\n

4. Bob and Doug McKenzie<\/a> \u2013 \u201c12 Days of Christmas\u201d
\nThis is high on my list of must-haves. I used to love hearing this on the radio when I was a kid. I was always a comedy fan, but when I came to rock and roll in junior high, Rush was part of the reason. The b-side here is \u201cTake Off,\u201d featuring Geddy Lee<\/a>. Bob and Doug McKEnzie and Rush<\/a> was an irresistible combination of comedy and rock favorites. And \u201cTake Off\u201d was just featured repeatedly on an episode of Ash Vs. Evil Dead<\/em><\/a>, so now I\u2019ve got the comedy\/music\/horror trifecta. Plus, red vinyl. Quantity: 3000 <\/p>\n

\"bobblymen_mikewattsmall\"5. Mike Watt<\/a> \u2013 The Bobblymen EP<\/em>
\nWatt just released a fantastic live album covering his \u201995 tour in support of his first solo album, ballhog or tugboat? He looks back again on this three-song EP, featuring three songs he wrote for The Minutemen<\/a> and never released, recorded with a band of musicians from his more recent projects dubbed The Bobblymen. The songs are \u201cStatement,\u201d \u201cSlots,\u201d and \u201cArt Analysis.\u201d This is listed as an \u201cRSD Limited Run\/Regional Focus Release,\u201d so you may need to get out there early if you\u2019re looking for it. Quantity: 1000<\/p>\n

6. Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention<\/a> \u2013 \u201cHow Could I Be Such A Fool?\u201d
\nZappa fans are drowning in reissues and archival releases, and there\u2019s a lot more to come. It\u2019s almost a tradition to pick up a new odd-colored Zappa 7\u201d on Record Store Day, and this year, it\u2019s the Mothers first single, 50 years after its original release. B-side is \u201cHelp I\u2019m A Rock 3rd Movement: It Can\u2019t Happen Here,\u201d which feels particularly apropos since the election. 10\u201d Vinyl:<\/strong>
\n1. Ben Folds<\/a> W yMusic<\/a> \u2013 In Concert 2015-2016<\/em>
\nIf you didn\u2019t catch Folds on tour for So There with the classical sextet, this is a glimpse of what the shows were like. Includes \u201cNot A Fan,\u201d \u201cCapable of Anything,\u201d \u201cPhone In A Pool,\u201d from So There and the Ben Folds Five tunes \u201cErase Me\u201d and \u201cSteven\u2019s Last Night In Town.\u201d Quantity: 2000 <\/p>\n

\n1. Run DMC<\/a> \u2013 \u201cChristmas In Hollis\u201d
\nMore Christmas music! And a picture disc, to boot! Run DMC\u2019s classic plus \u201cPeter Piper,\u201d both in their original form on side one, and in an instrumental format on the flip side. Quantity: 3000 <\/p>\n

LPs<\/strong>
\n1. Iggy<\/a> and the Stooges<\/a> \u2013 Telluric Chaos<\/em>
\nAnother live reunion disc, this one a double LP of Iggy and the Stooge in Tokyo in 2004, celebrating their 30th anniversary. Seventeen tracks, with old and new stuff, including \u201cI Wanna Be Your Dog,\u201d \u201cFun House,\u201d and \u201cTV Eye.\u201d Quantity: 1800 <\/p>\n

2. The Kinks<\/a> \u2013 Sleepwalker<\/em>
\nThe 1977 album with updated packaging \u2013 a gatefold sleeve \u2013 on black and white swirled vinyl. Quantity: 1500 <\/p>\n

\"DEAD3. Rudy Ray Moore<\/a> \u2013 This Ain\u2019t No White Christmas<\/em>
\nI have never heard this one, from the man who was both Dolemite and the Disco Godfather. It includes both music and spoken word tracks, a clean take on \u201cMerry Christmas, Baby,\u201d and a raunchy version of \u201cThe Night Before Christmas.\u201d It\u2019s described as half heartwarming and half profane comedy. Which means it\u2019s probably a good summation of what Moore could do. Maybe don\u2019t leave this one out when the kids come over for your family Christmas party. Quantity: 1200<\/p>\n

4. Kristen Schaal<\/a> and Kurt Braunohler<\/a> \u2013 Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen Live at the Virgil<\/em>
\nA double LP featuring performances from Schaal and Braunohler\u2019s stand-up and variety show at the Virgil in Los Angeles<\/a>. Featuring Eddie Pepitone<\/a>, Beth Stelling<\/a>, John Roberts<\/a>, Aparna Nancherla<\/a>, Karen Kilgariff<\/a>, Emily Heller<\/a>, Heather Lawless<\/a>, Kyle Kinane<\/a>, Andres DuBouchet<\/a>, and Eugene Mirman<\/a>.
