He\u2019s got an easy smile and open personality, and quite a musical legacy. He\u2019s been a sideman with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.builttospill.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Built to Spill<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thronesanddominions.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Earth<\/a> and led the 90s heavy psychedelic group <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/brett-netson\/cable\/s-aUK3L\" target=\"_blank\">Caustic Resin<\/a>. On September 9, he\u2019ll release Caustic Resin\u2019s 1998 album <em>The Medicine Is All Gone<\/em> on vinyl for the first time. The album was a turning point in that band\u2019s history. The songwriting was tighter, the sound more fully realized. \u201cWe just tried to go as deep into our own heavy trip as we possibly could,\u201d said Netson.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none\" src=\"\/\/html5-player.libsyn.com\/embed\/episode\/id\/4633116\/height\/90\/width\/640\/theme\/custom\/autonext\/no\/thumbnail\/yes\/autoplay\/no\/preload\/no\/no_addthis\/no\/direction\/backward\/no-cache\/true\/render-playlist\/no\/custom-color\/87A93A\/\" height=\"90\" width=\"640\" scrolling=\"no\"  allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen oallowfullscreen msallowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That was Caustic Resin\u2019s attitude. \u201cWe tried to kill it every time,\u201d says Netson. \u201cWe weren\u2019t fucking around.\u201d The goal was to put their full selves into every song, every album, and every show. You can feel that on the records they made. \u201cI don\u2019t care about money or being famous or girls,\u201d Netson says. \u201cThat\u2019s what Caustic Resin was about. Like, we want to a serious fucking show for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That led to band members were pushing themselves to the brink with drug abuse. It cost Netson, in terms of felony charges and personal crisis, and he spoke very plainly about what it did to him in this interview. \u201cYou get told you\u2019re a fucking monster and you just kind of believe it,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n<p>The conditions weren\u2019t perfect for the interview. We spoke a couple of rooms over from the main room at Boston\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/crossroadspresents.com\/paradise-rock-club\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paradise Rock Club<\/a>, where Netson was playing with Earth that evening opening up for Japanese doom metal band <a href=\"http:\/\/borisheavyrocks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Boris<\/a>. We had a choice \u2013 work through Boris\u2019s soundcheck or sit in 90-plus degree weather in the van. It gets loud.
